Welcome to the City of Calgary and Nature Calgary Bird Alert. This Bird Ale=
rt was recorded on Monday, December 5........................A pair of BAIR=
D'S SANDPIPERS were seen at Frank Lake east of High River on Saturday, Dece=
mber 3; the birds were seen by Phil Cram and Mike Mulligan. This is the fir=
st Winter record of this species in Alberta. The birds were near the outfal=
l in the northwest corner of the lake. Another amazing late bird was an AUD=
UBON'S subspecies Yellow-rumped Warbler found by Bill Wilson at Votier's Fl=
ats in west Fish Creek PP on Sunday, December 4 . Other late Fall migrants =
included an AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN below the Weir at Wyndham-Carseland PP s=
een by Terry Korolyk on Saturday, December 3, while, Bill Wilson saw a DUOB=
LE-CRESTED CORMORANT at Carburn Park in Calgary on Sunday, December 4. Terr=
y Korolyk observed an American Kestrel on Dunbow Road southeast of Calgary =
on Friday, December 2. Jan Roseneder found 3 Greater Scaup on Range Road 25=
5 just south of Township Road 240 on Thursday, November 24, while Tony Timm=
ons found 8 Ring-necked Ducks at Pine Coulee Reservoir west of Stavely on F=
riday, December 2. Bill Wilson found a Pied-billed Grebe and a female Canva=
sback on the Bow River at Carburn Park in Calgary on Saturday, December 3, =
and, Greg Wagner found 2 COMMON GRACKLES in High River south of Calgary, al=
so, on Saturday, December 3..........................In a Winter where ther=
e were an unprecedented number of late Gulls in the Calgary area, recent hi=
ghlights included a 1st. cycle GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL seen by Bob Storms and =
Bill Wilson at the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary in Calgary on Thursday, Decembe=
r 1. They also saw a 1st. cycle Thayer's Gull there, while, Dan Arndt saw a=
 1st. cycle Thayer's Gull at the Peigan Trail Gull Ponds in Calgary on Satu=
rday, November 26. Michael Harrison photographed 4 different Thayer's Gulls=
 at the Ponds on Sunday, November 27, and, also saw there a 1st. cycle Glau=
cous Gull. Michael also saw the probable INTERMEDIUS adult Lesser Black-bac=
ked Gull there that had been at the Inland Athletic Fields near the Spy Hil=
l Landfill in northwest Calgary earlier in the Fall. Bob Storms and Richard=
 Clarke observed a 3rd. cycle Thayer's Gull at IBS on Friday, December 2...=
..................Tomas Blasko photographed a male REDHEAD-LESSER SCAUP hyb=
rid in Banff on Friday, November 25, while Ron Hodgson reported a BARRED OW=
L in Fish Creek PP on Saturday, November 26, but, with no details as to the=
 exact location............Shirley Otway reported a female BLACK-BACKED WOO=
DPECER in the Park on Monday, December 28, but, again, there are no details=
 as to the location of the bird.........Darren Robson found a Great Gray Ow=
l near Water Valley on Saturday, November 26, while, Don Whitaker found a S=
hort-eared Owl north of Strathmore on Friday, December 2...................=
..Royce Howland has had a Mountain Chickadee at his home in Chinook Park in=
 southwest Calgary for approximately a month up until Sunday, December 4...=
